A Los Angeles native (musician, vocalist, writer, DJ, producer) who later operated out of New Jersey, made inroads through work with Kendrick Lamar, Ty Dolla $ign, and Mac Miller. Before pursuing his own artistry, Omari produced mostly for other acts. Notably, the LA rap group OverDoz. Iman is responsible for their hit song “Lauren London”. Around the turn of the 2010s, he began to issue a prolific quantity of his own material as a (singer/songwriter/producer).
His higher profile releases, and numerous download-only projects, include the Energy EP (2011), (Vibe)rations LP (2013), Samadhi EP (2014), High-Loops & Higher-Loops LP (2015), and 13 Instrumental tapes via Bandcamp.com. Iman’s title track from his 2011 release “Energy”, was on the Saint Heron compilation, executive produced by Solange Knowles in 2013. Years later, the song “Omari’s Mood” from Omari’s 2015 release was used during the beginning of Lamar’s February 2016 performance at the 58th Grammy Awards. During that year, Omari helped Produce Cavalier’s Lemonade EP. Iman has released his latest effort, IHY LP in (2017) via his own imprint Vibe Music Collective. 2018, Iman caught the ear of Lauryn Hill, and was asked to join for several dates during her “The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill 20th Anniversary Tour”.
In 2019, Iman Omari featured on Kaytranada’s long awaited Sophomore album “BUBBA” on a collaborative effort called “2 the Music”. Iman hopes to drop his seventh album this Spring 2020. He will be diving into the dance music genre for the first time.
